Boarding Options

Horses are all individuals with varying needs, therefore we offer multiple full board options ranging from herd board to individual stable board. There is no self or semi board options at Ernest Acres. All of the horses on the farm are kept on a strict Farrier and worming schedule. This is organized by the farm owner. Our farrier is Jack Ketel who comes every 6 weeks, there is a non-negotiable holding fee of $20 for each farrier visit that will be billed to each boarder. We worm 3x a year, again there will be a non- negotiable administering fee of $35 on top of the cost of the wormer itself that will be billed out for each boarded horse. The farrier and worming protocols are to ensure the proper maintenance and health of all the horses on the farm. Grain can be fed in any of our boarding options; all grain and supplements are to be provided by the owner and are not included in the price of board. All owners are also required to have current HCBC membership.

Herd Pasture board

Herd Pasture board allows the horses as close to a natural living environment as possible. The horses live in a herd of up to 10 horses with their own hierarchy and herd dynamic. Whenever the growing season allows the horses are rotated though our 9 pastures to be able to graze as nature intended. When there is not enough grass to sustain the herd they are supplemented with hay. During the winter months the herd is fed on large bales in slow feed hay nets to mimic grazing as close to possible. Each pasture has a large shed to allow the horses shelter from the weather when necessary.

Small Group Pasture Board

For those horses that cannot live in the large herd but still desire the social interaction of having a few "buddies" we offer small group pasture board. Like the group pasture board the horses are rotated through the pastures as much as possible and supplemented with hay when necessary. The Small Groups will be 2-4 horses carefully selected to live together depending on their temperaments and feeding needs.

"Pony" Board

Pony board is not just for ponies- it is for any of the "fat on air" types. These equines are kept in a herd as well but they are only fed low sugar hay and they are fed multiple times throughout the day; 3-4 times depending on the season. The ponies are kept in a large area as well- but an area with little to no grass to ensure they aren't getting too much sugar.

This boarding option is highly customizable but the basics include free choice hay and grain 2x a day.  This board option is ideal for horses that have special feeding needs or medication needs or are recovering from an injury and need to be limited in their movements.
